Fortune Telling Teapot

This hand-crafted, terra cotta teapot depicts the original Slavic agricultural pictorial calendar (Fortune Telling Circle) which was used to predict the best days for agricultural work through out the year.

The Slavic calendar year, which was lunar, began on the first day of March, similar to other Indo-European cultures. Slavic myths were cyclical, repeating every year over a series of festivities that followed changes of nature and seasons. Thus, to understand their mythology, it is important to understand their concept of calendar. Each month is represented by a unique pictograph. See graph below from which the calendar was taken.

An absolutely beautiful and practical teapot, with ceramic infuser, 3-cup capacity, hand-washed only.
