Nuwara Eliya - Special Grade |
||
|
Ceylon, or Sri Lanka,
is renowned for its high-quality teas and is the third largest
tea producing
country. The plantations started by
the British were initially taken over by the government in the 1960s but
have since been privatized and are now run by private plantation companies.
Nuwara Eliya is considered to be Sri Lankas most important tea producing
area. This oval shaped mountain valley, 6,200 feet
above sea level, is known as "Little England", with its charming villages,
scenic wilderness and flowery meadows. The Nuwara Eliya district produces tea with a very unique flavour. The air is scented with the fragrance of cypress trees, wild mint and eucalyptus which produces a tea that, when steeped, has an exquisite flavour and aroma. This delightful "flowery, broken, orange pekoe" grade has these light identifiable notes and a very clean finish. It has been said that Nuwara Eliya is to Ceylon Tea what Champagne is to French wine. A very refined tea ... perfect for your afternoon "cuppa". |
