Russian Earl Grey

Camel caravans were used to transport tea to Russia during the 18th century. During this year-long journey, the teas took on the smoky taste of the campfires. It didn't take long before smoky teas became very popular and were enjoyed by the British as well as the Russians. We believe Prime Minister Earl Grey would have loved this version of the classic recipe. To the original version of China and Ceylon black leaves, lightly flavored with the essential oil from the bergamot fruit, we've added a bit of smokiness from Lapsang Souchong. Not overpowering, just delicious.

With its golden red liquor, the refreshing citrus flavor from the bergamot pairs beautifully with the hint of smoke. You'll envision yourself sitting in a leather-bound, book-lined English library with a butler at your elbow ready to pour you another "cuppa". Ahhh!
