Tea is vulnerable to air, heat, light and moisture and will absorb whatever odors are around it. Because of this, it is best to store your tea in air-tight, tins or canisters. It is best to avoid glass containers, because glass will allow in light and the flavor will diminish.

Do not store your tea in the spice cabinet, refrigerator, near a source of heat or a window ledge. Always store your tea in a cool, dry place with low humidity, not in direct sunlight.
At Notting Hall, we recommend putting your tea into a plastic bag, squeeze the air out and twist it closed. Then place the plastic bag into a metal or ceramic canister where it should keep very well for months.
How long will tea last?
Green teas lose their freshness quicker than black or oolong teas and should not be stored for a long period of time. For maximum flavor and freshness, we recommend no longer than three to six months for green, and for black, perhaps six months to a year. Just remember, with time, all tea's flavor will diminish.
